Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer with a strong background in software development, infrastructure automation, and custom-built deployment systems. Unlike traditional cloud-based DevOps environments, we operate with a legacy inheritance that includes a custom version control system, a proprietary patch builder, and an installer that integrates a wide range of internally developed tools. At the same time, we leverage modern DevOps technologies, including Git, Jenkins, Nexus, Docker, Ansible, Bash, PowerShell, SQL, and Python, with a strong focus on Go (Golang) programming. We also plan to incorporate Terraform into our infrastructure management.
Operating in the Defense sector, we work in a highly secure environment where an internet connection cannot be assumed. This presents unique challenges in installation, patching, and software deployment, requiring innovative and offline-friendly solutions. Additionally, compliance with security regulations and up-to-date software requirements is essential, ensuring that all deployments are hardened, secure, and meet industry and government standards.
The ideal candidate should have a solid programming foundation, quickly adapt to new technologies, and act as a sparring partner for brainstorming solutions tailored to our unique ecosystem.

Your mission

Maintain, enhance, and optimize our custom-built DevOps toolchain.
Design, implement, and automate deployment workflows for our specialized environment.
Work with traditional DevOps tools like Git, Jenkins, Nexus, Docker, Ansible, and Terraform (future integration).
Develop solutions that accommodate air-gapped environments with no internet access.
Ensure compliance with security regulations, standards, and policies related to software deployment.
Implement and maintain secure software development practices and patching strategies.
Collaborate with development teams to improve scalability, performance, and security.
Troubleshoot, monitor, and optimize existing infrastructure and software processes.
Engage in architectural discussions and provide technical insights tailored to our custom systems.
Explore and integrate new DevOps tools and methodologies where applicable.

Your capabilities

Strong programming skills, especially in Golang, Python, Bash, and PowerShell.
Experience working with custom-built DevOps tools rather than only cloud-based solutions.
Proficiency in Git, Jenkins, Nexus, Docker, Ansible, and SQL.
Familiarity with infrastructure automation, configuration management, and build systems.
Understanding of air-gapped environments and how to handle offline patching, software updates, and deployment.
Experience with security compliance frameworks, vulnerability management, and secure coding practices.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think critically about complex systems.
Ability to quickly learn and adapt to proprietary technologies.
Excellent communication skills and willingness to engage in brainstorming sessions.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Terraform (or strong willingness to learn and implement it).
Experience with version control systems, including custom or non-standard implementations.
Knowledge of package management, patching, and installer creation.
Familiarity with CI/CD principles, even in non-cloud-native environments.
Experience working with highly customized infrastructure.
Understanding of government and defense-specific security compliance standards.
Open-source contributions or a strong interest in knowledge-sharing.
